2013 Greece 2 Euro

This 2013 Greek 2 Euro coin was issued to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Greek Red Cross, a rare case where a humanitarian organization appeared on a national currency during the country's economic troubles.

Struck at the Greek Mint in Athens, it features the standard euro specifications: a bimetallic composition with an outer ring of copper-nickel and a center of nickel-brass. The obverse shows the Greek Red Cross emblem encircled by the inscription "60 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΟΣ ΕΡΥΘΡΟΣ ΣΤΑΥΡΟΣ" and the years 1953-2013, while the reverse bears the common euro design.

Exact mintage numbers aren't recorded in my notes, possibly filed away in some dusty archive. I've examined dozens over the years; they hold up well in circulation, no worse than your average pocket change.

Some call it symbolic. Me, I just note it's one of the few coins that might actually do some good if donated.
