2003 Greece 2 Euro

The 2003 Greek 2 Euro coin was one of the earliest euro issues to feature the Acropolis on its national side, designed by artist Georgios Stamatopoulos to nod at ancient heritage amid Europe's new monetary union.

That design choice made it a subtle bridge between old and new, though it's just a coin, not a history lesson. The obverse shows the standard euro map and stars, while the edge bears the inscription "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ" in Greek script. Minted in Finland for Greece, it used the typical bi-metallic composition: a nickel-brass ring around a copper-nickel center.
