The 1935 Soviet 5 kopeks coin was one of the first to employ aluminum-bronze in circulation, a practical shift from earlier copper alloys to conserve scarce metals during Stalin's Five-Year Plans.

This composition made it lighter and more resistant to wear, though it didn't stop the coins from circulating widely in a cash-strapped economy. The obverse features a simple hammer and sickle emblem, while the reverse lists the denomination and year, all struck at the Leningrad Mint.

We don't know the exact mintage figures; records from that era are spotty, likely due to wartime disruptions later on.

Most of these ended up as pocket change, not collector's items.
