Przemysł II Denar

Przemysł II's denar was the first coin to bear the title of a Polish king, struck in 1295 to assert his sovereignty after two centuries of fragmentation.

This silver piece, weighing about 0.8 grams, featured a crude effigy of the king on one side and a cross on the other, symbols that cut through the haze of medieval politics. Records don't specify the exact mint location, though Greater Poland is likely; mintage figures vanished long ago, perhaps in some forgotten archive fire.

What we know is that these coins circulated briefly during his short reign, ending with his assassination in 1296. Debates persist over their authenticity in collections, given the forgeries that pop up like weeds.
