The French 2 Euro coin from 2002 features a design by artist Joaquin Jimenez that draws directly from the French Revolution's Tree of Liberty, a motif that's as enduring as it is understated.

This bimetallic piece, with its outer ring of nickel brass and a three-ply nickel center, was engineered to combat counterfeiting in the new Euro era. France produced it at the Monnaie de Paris, where the obverse shows the tree alongside the letters "RF" for République Française. The reverse, shared across Eurozone countries, displays the denomination and a map of Europe—practical, if a bit generic.

We don't have exact mintage figures handy; records from that period can be as elusive as a rare variant in a dealer's tray. Still, it's a workhorse coin, seeing daily use rather than collector's cases.
