The 5 Pesos coin, introduced in 1975, was one of the first Chilean issues to use a bronze alloy composed of copper, tin, and zinc, reflecting the nation's pivot from precious metals amid economic pressures.

This made it practical for everyday transactions, though its unpolished finish meant it wore down quickly in pockets and purses. Production ran until 1984, with most strikes handled at the Santiago mint, but exact annual outputs remain unclear—records from that era are spotty at best.
