The 1957 1 Centavo from Mexico switched to a bronze alloy with higher tin content, making it more resistant to the wear of daily pocket change than earlier versions.

This redesign reflected Mexico's post-war efforts to streamline coin production at the Casa de Moneda. The obverse bore the familiar eagle perched on a cactus, devouring a serpent, while the reverse simply stated the value and year. Mintage figures for that specific year aren't precisely recorded, though we know production was high for circulation needs.
