1928 Belgium 50 Centimes

The 1928 Belgian 50 centimes was one of the first coins in the country to use nickel exclusively, a shift driven by post-World War I metal shortages that made silver unaffordable.

This nickel planchet, weighing about 5 grams and measuring 24 millimeters across, featured a simple design: a lion rampant on the reverse, symbolizing Belgium's heraldic pride, and the year prominently displayed. It circulated widely during the interwar years, when Europe was piecing itself back together.
