The 1925 Italian Lira was minted during the early days of Mussolini's regime, using base metals like bronze to stretch Italy's postwar resources—materials that often came from recycled scrap.

This circulation coin bears the profile of King Vittorio Emanuele III on one side and the Italian coat of arms on the other, a design that reflected the monarchy's uneasy alliance with Fascism. Records of its production are murky; most mintage details burned in a 1943 fire during the Allied bombing of Rome.

Plenty of these turned up in my early days, often tarnished from years in circulation. If you ask me, the real myth is that they carry historical weight—mostly, they're just well-worn pocket change.
