The 20 Centavos coin from Peru was struck in silver well into the mid-20th century, a rarity as global economies ditched precious metals for cheaper alloys.

That silver content varied slightly over the years, from about 0.720 fine in the early issues to purer compositions later, depending on wartime demands and metal availability. The obverse typically showed the Peruvian coat of arms, with a wreath and stars, while the reverse featured the denomination and date. Most were minted in Lima, though exact production figures for many years remain murky, lost to bureaucratic fires or neglect.
