1918 Mexico 2 Centavos

The 1918 2 Centavos coin was struck by Mexico's Constituent Assembly mint, one of the first issues to standardize currency after years of revolutionary disorder.

This bronze piece, weighing about 3.5 grams, featured a simple design: the national coat of arms on the obverse and the denomination on the reverse. Mintage figures are unclear; records from that era were often incomplete or destroyed in subsequent conflicts.

What we do know is that it circulated widely in central Mexico, helping stabilize an economy in flux. Some specimens show signs of hasty production, like weak strikes, reflecting the mint's challenges.

Plenty of fakes exist, so experts check for the correct edge reeding. As for humor, calling it the "forgotten sibling" of more famous revolutionary coins isn't far off.
