Hidalgo Peso

The 1914 Hidalgo Peso was one of the first Mexican coins to feature a revolutionary figure, Miguel Hidalgo, on its obverse during the chaos of the Mexican Revolution. This design choice reflected the era's political shifts, with his profile staring out like a defiant ghost from the past. Struck at the Mexico City mint, these pesos used standard silver alloys, though exact sources remain murky due to wartime disruptions.

Records from that period are spotty; we know production ran into 1915, but precise mintage figures vanished in subsequent conflicts. The reverse shows a Phrygian cap, symbolizing liberty, alongside the national coat of arms.
