The 1 Krone coin marked Norway's shift to a decimal system in 1875, replacing the old rigsdaler with a currency divided into 100 øre for smoother trade in the Scandinavian Monetary Union.

This silver piece, weighing about 5 grams and measuring 23 millimeters across, featured King Oscar II on the obverse and the royal coat of arms on the reverse. Early issues were struck at the Christiania Mint, though exact production figures for some years remain unclear due to incomplete records from that era. Variations in die quality appeared over the three decades, likely from wear on the minting presses.

Collectors sometimes overlook that these coins circulated widely, even in remote areas, helping standardize commerce. Not that it was perfect; the design evolved slightly after 1891 to reflect minor political shifts.
