Peter III Rouble

Peter III's 1762 rouble was struck during his brief, chaotic reign, with production halting abruptly after his deposition in July of that year.

This silver coin, weighing approximately 28 grams and measuring 39 millimeters in diameter, featured a laureate bust of the tsar on the obverse, alongside the imperial eagle on the reverse. The design drew from Western influences, reflecting Peter's admiration for Prussian styles—a detail that irked his Russian contemporaries.

Mintage figures remain uncertain; most records from the Saint Petersburg mint were likely destroyed in later fires or purges. What we know is that few examples survived, as many were melted down under Catherine the Great's orders.

As for myths, the idea that every one carries a curse is nonsense. They were just coins, hastily made in silver that might have come from recycled sources, though that's unconfirmed.
