Weighing in at under two grams, these coins were struck in Rome and other Papal mints using basic copper alloys. Variations appeared over the centuries, with designs featuring papal arms or simple crosses, depending on the pope in power. Mintage figures vary; some years saw thousands produced, others fewer, though records from the 1700s are spotty due to archival losses.

Not every Quattrino survived intact. Many showed wear from constant use, their edges worn smooth like an old priest's cassock. As for myths, I've heard tales of hidden treasures, but in truth, most ended up in the dirt or melted down.

Counterfeits popped up regularly, prompting occasional papal edicts that did little to stem the tide.
