These were utilitarian tokens, probably weighing a few grams and featuring crude designs—maybe a lion or shield, though records are spotty. Mintage figures? Gone with the wind, or more accurately, the fires and wars that swept through archives. It's possible this penny was just a variant of the common duit or obol, recycled from whatever metal was handy, including old bells or scrap.
